Friday Talent Show

Are you a ham? Are you good? Are you funny? Are you...dramatic? Do you know what Transicality means?! If any of this describes the girl in you, then come be part of our Friday Night Talent Show!

The Friday Talent Show is our very own talent and variety show featuring singing, dancing, lip-synch, comedy, and a special tribute. It is the highlight of an evening that begins with cocktails and a full meal served at the elegant and historic Elk's Lodge. Since 2000, attendees at Esprit have had the chance to make their dreams come true, that is, if your dream is to dress up like your idol and get up on stage shaking your booty and performing!

Debra is a little bit country. Margo is a little bit rock and roll. Like chocolate and peanut butter, they go well together. Come join them and Penny, Connie, Karen and the usual cast of suspects as they explore the world of Petticoats and Trannie songs. Petticoats? Yes Petticoats! Wear yours proudly, along with any choice of attire that goes along with them. Trannie songs? You bet. We've got them by the bra full. Whether you are up on stage or out in the audience, you can be part of the show too. We invite you to wear your favorite petticoat outfit, be it a poodle skirt, country sundress, bridal gown, prom dress, square dance dress, or whatever goes well with a petticoat.

Of course, you can be part of this show too. Bring your own background music to rehearsal and we'll be ready for you (see Guidelines below). There are some gals who do their own live number and some with their own instruments. Unsure if your act will work? Don't worry, there are no talent scouts, and we have a try-out and rehearsal before the show. We are always quite delighted with the broad spectrum of talent that makes our show. It's always a hoot.

This event is open to the public for a $5 cover charge (donated to charity) after the meal has concluded (approximately 8PM). Esprit staff and a local security guard will provide security and screen local guests. There will be a no-host bar serving alcohol so you must be 21 or over.

After the talent show, the live dance band The Walrus will play an entire evening's worth of popular and classic dance music. Out in town, The Nasty Habits are excited to keep the tradition going at the Lyre's Club (formerly The Crazy Fish) and will play on their brand new stage as their first officially booked band. You won't want to miss this great night of entertainment!

One more day left and we are definitely not ending quietly! On Saturday we start by honoring our first time attendees in a special ceremony ...

Guidelines

There are some basic guidelines that must be followed in order to make the show as enjoyable as possible. Everyone still gets to be in the show (unless there is a real time constraint and too many acts). Pretty much anything goes, as long as it's satisfactory for the diverse, all-age audience that we have at Esprit. Participants will be limited to one turn up on stage with possible exceptions for well-rehearsed performances by players with established track records if we have a surplus of time.

Performers are asked to restrict acts (songs/skits/sketches/etc.) to five minutes, as we're trying keep the show at a reasonable length and fast-paced. Auditions will be held around mid-week, and rehearsals are typically held Friday afternoon. These commitments may mean you miss classes or other activities. The actual audition and rehearsal times will be posted on the weekly schedule as soon as possible, but you should also check the Registration Desk for last minute scheduling announcements.

To avoid playback and media/equipment incompatibilities, we recommended that you bring the original factory CD. You may bring your own burned audio or MP3 CD or cassette tape as a backup but personal copies have proven to be unreliable. You can email an electronic copy of your music to our show coordinator ahead of time to work out any glitches.

So get out there, get your acts together and practice, practice, practice! If you have any questions, or want to get your act in the lineup early, please contact the talent show coordinator with your ideas, plans, and what you'd like to do in the show.
